Two reasons for cut downs are comradery among guys and efforts to make others feel small. Cut back in fun and realize sometimes people feel better when someone else is less than them. They are feeling small and trying to fix it. You can pity them for doing that, and let them know it if you know they are feeling harsh, while keeping your attitude tall.
