Verbal invitations tend to require direct verbal responses which may be committal or offensive. Non-verbal or symbolic invitations are not binding and may be withdrawn or refused or denied without affront or loss of self-esteem. Non-verbal approaches are clearly the way to go; so that by the time you are making the physical approach; you already know positive response is likely.
