Sometimes people will make an association for you that is undesired. This might be anything from an activity or event to some personal trait. To argue usually sets their mind like a fighting a fish on a hook. You can shuffle their associations by pointing out good associations that are not arguable. For example, if they say "Look at those ears" you can reply "Yea, kind of like Shrek or Yoda! Well, they were a little endearing. How about that mousey character, what was the name..." When they start finding positive spins, then, change is happening.
